DoCoMo aims at 80% 3G sales

Japanese mobile giant NTT DoCoMo has set itself a target of selling more than 20 million high-speed mobile handsets this year. This is equal to twice the number of 3G users that the company currently has.

KDDI Announces EZ 'Chaku Uta Full' Downloads Exceed 5 Million

Another breaking point for KDDI au brand, EZ Chaku Uta Full downloads surpassed 5 million on April 3, 2005.

For those who don't know, EZ "Chaku Uta Full" is a music download service through which an entire song can be downloaded directly onto a mobile handset.

KDDI's 3G subscriber base reaches 18 million users

According to KDDI, the total number of subscribers for 3rd generation cellular phones provided by KDDI and Okinawa Cellular exceeded 18 million on April 6, 2005.

Apple launches wireless Internet store in Japan

Apple has opened a version of its online store for wireless Internet users in Japan.

The service is available to owners of most handsets sold by NTT DoCoMo Inc. and KDDI Corp.'s Au unit, which together account for about 82 percent of all wireless Internet subscribers in Japan. The version for Au's EZWeb service launched on March 28 and the NTT DoCoMo I-mode site went live on April 1, Apple said.

Sony sells over 500,000 PSP units in first two days

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced that the first week sales of the PlayStation Portable handheld entertainment system generated more than $150 million at North American retailers, outpacing the launch week sales for any other product in the space. Additionally, demand drove the sell through of over 500,000 PSP Value Packs in the first two days alone.
